BBR trainer profiles - Josh, Jake and Benson

As Bodies by Ryan training facilities expand we have seen a tonne of new members across the Claremont and Jolimont strength and HIIT gyms. Welcome, welcome, welcome - hopefully you all feel immediately at home and ready to create your strongest body and mind ever!
Alongside head trainer Ryan Devereux and long-term trainers Gene, Luke and Dave, BBR has added three new, very different and amazing humans to the line up of those who inspire, educate and shout at us!
Josh, Jake and Benson chatted with BBR blog writer Lisa O’Neill to share a little about themselves, their backgrounds and what motivates them.

Josh Fawcett

LO: Welcome Josh, loving your sessions with your upbeat energy! Tell us about your background…

JF: I’ve played cricket all my life, and play second grade cricket at south Perth cricket club. I’ve also represented WA for under 21’s indoor cricket and plan to go away next year for open men’s team.

My background in the fitness industry started in 2020 when I completed my Cert IV in fitness, and at the height of Covid I started by just heading out and doing house calls.

LO: What led you to working at BBR?

JF: I’d recently left my role at a gym in Osborne park and was looking for something new. I play cricket with BBR trainer Dave and was really impressed with his high coaching standard, so I reached out to him. The next day I had a call from Ryan and he had me shadow train some classes. From there, I was hooked and I just wanted to get in and be part of the team, the environment was just so amazing.

LO: What do you love about BBR so far?

JF: I love coming into any class during the day or night and people are just so happy and energetic - it’s so infectious and gets me hyped to give them the best workout possible.

LO: What are your personal goals right now?

JF: I’m heading to the UK at the end of the year and a major goal of mine is to get under 100kg by then. In 2023, I want to push my cricket further and hopefully play first grade cricket by the end of the year.

LO: And what are your best tips for BBR members chasing their own goals?

JF: My advice is just be consistent, whether it’s training or nutrition, but also give yourself a bit of time to reflect and relax, and acknowledge you are more than capable of achieving what you put your mind to.

Jake Morgan

LO: Welcome Jake, have loved every session with you so far. Tell us about your background…

JM: Growing up I played every sport I could sign myself up to and managed to find basketball and football, which I really sunk my teeth into and have been playing them ever since the age of six. This love for sport led me into the world of exercise as a career path. So, I moved over to WA from Tasmania and went to Curtin University to study Exercise, Sport and Rehabilitation Science.

Since graduating in 2019, I have been fortunate enough to work as a personal trainer/coach and have loved every second of it. My drive to expand my knowledge and expertise has also led me to acquiring my diploma in “Remedial Massage Therapy” which has really helped elevate my understanding of the body and getting the most out of it.

LO: How did you find Ryan and BBR?

JM: I wanted to become a part of the BBR team and work with Ryan after following along the social media journey for a while. The energy and experience really resonated with me and I thought that it would be a fantastic place to learn, grow and motivate. I was really excited to meet Ryan, the work that he has put in to make BBR what it is today is inspiring. I jumped at the opportunity to gain any amount of knowledge and wisdom from Ryan.

LO: What are your favourite parts of BBR so far?

JM: The clients themselves! So far, I have been able to meet so many amazing people while working here. The passion that everyone brings to the table is truly remarkable and I love the way that everyone really buys into the process. It doesn’t matter what previous experience people have or what background they have in training, everyone comes in and gives 100%. This then ties into the culture that has been created at BBR. Everyone is there to get better and support each other, no matter what the journey, it’s truly empowering!

LO: What are your personal goals right now?

My goals for the remainder of 2022 and progressing into 2023 is to keep expanding my knowledge and development as a trainer/coach. I will always love the process of bettering myself and then being able to share that knowledge with others. I’m really looking forward to further growing my connection and interaction with BBR members and being able to help more and more people with their own health and fitness journeys.

My personal goals for my own health and fitness, however, are more centred around the current rehabilitation of my knee after ACL surgery at the beginning of the year. I want to get back to a level I’m confident and capable to play sport and participate in all the other activities currently limited through my injury.

LO: What’s your best advice for BBR members to achieve their goals?

JM: My best advice for people is to really think about your health and fitness goals as an investment rather than a chore. Your body and mind are the most valuable thing you will ever have, so why not treat it with the most amount of care and respect that you can. You have to spend a long time in the body and mind that you have, you might as well make it the best experience you can.

In conjunction to this I would like to highlight an idea;

Motivation is the catalyst that starts your journey. Determination is the part that keeps you coming back. Intent is the fuel that grows you.

Use this idea to guide your health and fitness goals staying present to the process.

Benson Mangini

LO: Welcome to the team Benson! Tell us all about your fitness background…

BM: Growing up in Sydney, I was always interested in sports. I reached a high level of pool and open water swimming events and then moved into rowing at a competitive level. My love for the gym started when I was around 14, begging my mum to take me with her on the weekends. This love for the gym turned into a 5am commute to school on bus and train, while dragging along as many mates as I could to give them workouts to follow. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity of being trained by different powerlifting and bodybuilding coaches that has further developed my love for the gym.

LO: Why did you want to work with Ryan and BBR?

BM: At the beginning of this year I was gifted some one-on-one personal training sessions with Ryan at which point I became addicted to the training style and intensity level Ryan was putting me through. I knew instantly that working with Ryan and BBR was going to help me reach my personal goals with fitness.

LO: What are your favourite parts of BBR so far?

BM: I love the community aspect to BBR, it feels like my second family already. I also love the energy that the trainers and members bring into the classes, it’s absolutely infectious and makes the 4am wake-ups so much easier.

LO: What are your personal goals?

BM: My goal to finish off this year is to have the ability to work more one on one with BBR members to help them achieve their final goals for the year. Going into next year, I’ll be working towards my personal goal of competing professionally in bodybuilding!

LO: What's your best advice for BBR members to achieve their goals?

My best advice for BBR members is to stay consistent! Understanding that gym progress isn’t always linear, being patient and trusting the process.
