BBR: 2023, a Year in Reflection

As we hit the final stretch of 2023, BBR invites you to join us in a moment of reflection and goal setting. In this blog, our very own Lisa O’Neill sits down with Ryan as he shares insights into the triumphs and challenges of the past year and unveil the exciting prospects that await us in 2024. From the dedication of our trainers to the incredible transformations within our community, we delve into the highs, the strategic shifts, and the personal revelations that have shaped BBR. As we gear up for the festive season, discover Ryan's priorities for the remaining weeks, upcoming events to strengthen our community bonds, and a sneak peek into the transformative initiatives set to unfold in the coming year. Get ready for a journey of introspection, celebration, and anticipation as we bid farewell to 2023 and set the stage for the next chapter at BBR!

Lisa: BBR’s best tips to finish off the year on a high?

Ryan: Team, I can’t believe we are rolling into the final weeks of 2023. As we approach 2024 at full speed, it’s a great time to reflect on what you’ve achieved this year and contemplate any final goals niggling at the back of your mind. Whip out the journal (if you don’t have one, grab a simple notebook and put a nice one on your Christmas list!) and go through the following questions, allowing yourself to acknowledge the big wins and the little ones.

  • What am I most proud of achieving this year?

  • What small changes did I make that made a difference to my everyday life?

  • What are my priorities for the six weeks left, what matters most to me over this time?

  • What do I want to do more or less of in 2024?

It’s a process I love going through because so often other people’s priorities can distract us from doing what matters most to us. Because I like to practise what I preach, I went through this process and thought I’d get vulnerable and share my answers here with you. I hope it gives you some inspo to do the same.

Lisa: What are you most proud of this year?

Ryan: Without question, it’s the team we’ve built at  BBR and how hard we continue to work to make BBR what it is. We have passionate trainers who embrace the BBR vision of transforming bodies and lives, and genuinely care about our community. I’ve got my right-hand man Geno who consistently delivers the best service to BBR members along with Benson, Josh, Blair, Osky, Emily, Rich and the recently-returned Disco Dave, who each bring so much energy and enthusiasm to the gym every session – it’s a dream team and I’m so thankful for their awesome efforts and vibes. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media for the ‘Train with the Trainers’ sessions which have proven to be an absolute hit. We also have another Em that’s started this week that has made some solid impact on her first few classes at Jolimont.

Beyond the trainers, I’m so proud of all the transformations I’ve seen this year. Have a scroll of our Instagram feed,  it’s f**ing jaw-dropping to see how many of the members have completely changed their physique, their mindset and how they operate… It makes me emotional just thinking about it! Because that’s exactly why the trainers and I get up in the 4s every morning at the thought of seeing you all crush your sessions and get stronger, look better and feel happier every day as a result.

The business growth has been incredibly challenging, I have never been stretched so much in so many different ways. I knew there would be some growing pains as we expanded BBR to include a fourth gym out at Perth Airport and trying to find a “balance” would be difficult, but this year has by far been the most challenging.  But, as we know the greatest amount of growth comes from discomfort and I am super proud of where we are as a business and as one big community today. Opening at the Airport and bringing new members into the amazing, bright space has been very rewarding. It’s been a great feeling to create another community of like minded people that all work hard towards their goals. Once we’ve found a good local café to have a post-session chinwag, I know the community will be as strong as the OG gym!

Behind the scenes, I took on a new role following my Lululemon ambassadorship and coached the new ambassadors through a business accelerator course. It has been so satisfying to work with coaches and business owners a few years behind me and my journey, to provide some advice and wisdom on everything I’ve learnt so far.

Lisa: What small changes did you make that made a difference to your everyday life?

Ryan: The biggest change I’ve had to make is to stop waking up at 3am to train before I coach. As much as I love the feeling of accomplishment I got from completing my session first thing and the buzz it brought to my coaching, my health was suffering. Instead, I’ve let myself ‘sleep in’ to 4am and train after coaching, before personal training and working on the business. This has made a big difference to my sleep quality and energy levels. I highly recommend you all take a close look at the quantity and quality of your sleep, which makes a big difference to your whole life, let alone training.

As always, I try to do a breathwork  and Yin Yoga session when I can to help reduce stress and to slow down. I feel the more I have on my plate and the more I have going on in my life it becomes more important to engage in wellness modalities. Both Humming Hive on Cambridge street and Recovery Lab next to us in Jolimont have been a game changer for both my physical and mental wellbeing. Compression boots after a leg day at Recovery lab and a Sound Healing session on a Friday night or Breathwork on a Wednesday night at Humming Hive have been serious game changers this year.

Lisa: What are your priorities for the six weeks left, what matters most to you over this time?

Ryan: To be with the community and help it become stronger than ever! You might have noticed the gyms have had some Super Saturday Sessions where we focus on one gym, get extra members into just one time slot with a coffee date to follow. This has been completely intentional to help everyone develop more connection with their gym buddies (without having a chat over the ass bike – yep, we see and hear you!). We’ll be doing some fun events in the lead up to the festive season so you feel your best while having a laugh!

The big connection event is of course, the upcoming BBR Festive Function of 2nd December from 2pm at the Golden West Brewing Co in Subiaco. Put it in your diaries, we want to celebrate an epic year of strength, friendship and physique transformations! We’ll be handing out the transformation of 2023 awards and some incredible door prizes over a couple of drinks and some nibbles. No need to buy a ticket, bring your BBR friends and join us for a fun arvo.

Lisa: What do you want to do more or less of in 2024?

For me 2024 is going to be about getting back to what I’m truly passionate about, helping individuals transform. I feel our last challenge seminar and this last 6-week challenge has been the best yet.

Over the last two plus years, I’ve worked pretty hard to get BBR where I want it. Multiple locations across Perth but rolling as one big community. Transformation on a HUGE scale. Now I can shift my full focus back to transformations and making members better.  I’m going to run  HUGE seminars with serious energy and vibes leading into challenges that will include goal setting, training, mediation, DJs, juices, smoothies etc with Yuhki snapping all the awesome shots as per usual.

2024: BBR 6 WKC

  • 1st Feb BBR Live Seminar

  • 5th Feb Kick Off

T2T - Time to Transform

I’ll be launching a 6 Week Bespoke Program for individuals that want more 1-1. This will have weekly Zoom check ins with the options of a weekly P.T sessions. Think ALL IN vibe. NO BS, only commit to this if you’re ready to transform.

BBR 12-Month Membership

We’ll be releasing ten 12-month memberships on 1st December that will save the members 17.5% and get them early access into classes.

BBR Bali

Retreat in Bali, September 2024.

At this stage I’m planning to take 10-20 members to Bali for a 7 Day Retreat. My plan is to pack up the Claremont gyms for the show and head straight to the airport. The seven days will include daily training, yoga, ice baths, meditation and loads of time to catch some sun, read a book and get off the grid.

As always, we’ll be planning a big awards night half way through the year with lots of social catch ups and more coffee dates. I’ll be getting back to what I’m passionate about - transforming individuals and connecting members across our communities.

BBR will continue to grow and evolve in 2024 as we’ll be pushing hard to create more value and increase the member experience.

2024……..Be ready.
